TV show Black-ish hits on Postpartum

Erica • 26. Wife. Mama. All around bad ass.

I’ve been dealing with depression the last few months, which isn’t exactly new for me...but the feelings that come with it somehow still are. My therapist said I will most likely struggle with postpartum depression as well.

I’ve always been so scared of postpartum. It seems like up until recently people wouldn’t dare speak on the issue. It was something most women were, and some still are, ashamed of. This episode of Black-ish (Season 4 E: 2 if you are interested) sheds light on Rainbows experience with postpartum and how her family helps her to realize she’s been in a rut and to finally get help. It shows that no matter how hard things are you ARE still good enough as a mommy and as a woman. That feeling down is nothing to be ashamed of, and there is help if you ever find yourself in that position!

I keep telling myself I’m going to be okay and what not, but there’s a certain kind of comfort you get from knowing you aren’t the only one...

To all of the other mommies, mommies to be, and hopeful mommies just know that there’s always someone who will lend a helping hand. If you ever feel like you just can’t get the hang of things or you just need a little extra motivation and help please speak up and get the attention you deserve ❤️
