Hand me downs- ungrateful?

My husbands cousin had a baby about a year and a half ago. Now they keep giving me all their hand me downs. They haven’t even asked if we wanted them just keep handing them to my MIL. And she keeps giving them to me. I don’t want them. I am being ungrateful?

It’s crazy to me that people are saying that not wanting hand me downs is ungrateful. I personally wouldn’t want them for myself or my child. I’m just picky. No judgement to anyone who does, it’s just not for me. 
We’ve worked hard to be at place in life where we can afford three things we want and I don’t think there’s anything ungrateful about that.

They haven’t given me any clothes. They are just dumping the stuff their kid doesn’t use. My issue is that that they want to give us the stuff I just wish they would ask. I don’t know what I am having so I am sure that is why they are holding off on the clothes. I just want them to ask. I don’t have the time to go through this stuff to see what is good and what is their garbage.

Yeah kinda because a lot of people would be grateful for that.
However, what's your reason for not wanting them? Is it a style thing? Feeling overwhelmed by the amount? 
Maybe talk to the cousin, say "thanks but no thanks". It might seem like an insult or they may understand. That you'll have to navigate on your own.
Either way whatever you get and don't want, pay it forward-give it away.

and it's not ungrateful... personally I have been given things and while they are telling me it's because they thought I could use them, it's usually they just want to get rid of them and it's easy to hand a bag to someone and say here...just say thank you and ask if they mind if you donate what you won't use... otherwise you get over run with stuff

Nope, I totally get it. Especially if it’s your first. You want them to have their own things and if you can afford it, why not! I plan on being pretty strict with what people give me because 1. It’s my first and frankly, I bought new things for my niece and nephew and I want that for my kid too. I don’t expect people to pay me back in gifts at all, but I expect them to respect my decision not to use second hand things if I don’t want to. 2. Sometimes it is a safety issue. I will not take a used crib or car seat. 3. I don’t want clutter. I don’t want to sift through other people’s things. I grew up on hand-me-downs and was very grateful because my parents had very little. But I worked really hard and waited to be able to give my baby a bit better than I had. Babies spit up a lot so their clothes are usually stained anyway. As baby 1 grows out of things, I’ll wash and store good stuff for baby 2. This way, it’s all an investment!

I understand this. I’m very picky and this is my first child. I’d rather spend a little more and have the items I want for my baby. It’s no ungrateful, it’s just reality.

Babies grow too fast , I love getting cheap or free baby clothes. I just don't care for stains. Those I just scrap for material.

Why would you want to waste money on baby clothes that you will only use for 1-2 months? Anything thats free.99$ I would take gladly. Save your money for items that your child will actually care about- how about money for private school tuition or university? Its a long haul and in the end I dont know anyone that will look back and goes "thank gawd my mom wasted money on that fancy bel bamini Onesie when I was 5 months old, sure changed the course of my life!" Just wait Until your baby turns a preteen who claims their life will be over unless you immediately run out and but them the newest gucci sneakers 🙄 those days come in the blink of an eye!

No I don’t think so my sister in laws have tried giving me cribs, bassinets stuff like that me and my husband just told them we wanted to buy our own as of now and we’d let them know if anything changed they were fine with it.
