i’m 17 and my boyfriend is 15, so i’m a junior and he’s a sophomore. before me he dated a girl a year above me in school and they were going to have sex but ended up breaking up before they could. he wants to have sex with me and i’m totally ready to but i want to make sure i’m not taking advantage of him in any way because of his age. do you think it’s wrong? i asked him if he was sure he wants to and he said yes and acts really excited about it. i’m really excited to make that connection with him but i wanted to know other people’s opinions on if the age difference matters.

Honestly I am kind of on the fence.. I mean if you are unsure of it then I wouldn’t but I took my husbands virginity when he was 16 and I was 17( I was raped at 15 , so I was not a virgin). We both felt the timing was right for the both of us and to this day we still remember that night like it was yesterday. I’m not saying you’ll end up marrying this man by any means because not all relationships last.  What I’m trying to get at here is only you will know when the timing is right and if you’re not 100% sure about it then listen to your gut. Also please make sure to be on some kind of birth control and use a condom. Sexual diseases are nothing to play around with and nor is pregnancy. Also birth control isnt fully 100% effective either so I strongly recommend using a condom as well. Also some people are saying it’s considered rape ? I’m not sure what state you live in but if this is the case please don’t do it then. If for some reason his parents were to find out they could take you to court. Maybe educate yourself about the age requirements for your state too. Just please be safe about this in all aspects.

Same with all of the other comments on here basically, I think the age factor isn’t a big deal because if you think about it in terms of highschool, you two are one year apart... and you are both under 18, so the age gap isn’t much of a big deal, but the main issue is the fact that you feel the need to question whether or not it is an issue and that you would like to build a trust with him... If you do not have that trust in your relationship already, and if you have to question being with him, you shouldn’t be with him at all, let alone be having sex with him.

Legally, where I live 17 is the age limit on statutory rape. That means that a 17 yr old here can't legally have sex with a 16 yr old 2 months before they turn 17. 
Check the legal age of consent in your area & the statutory rape laws.

Its technically illegal so you're taking a risk. Doesn't necessarily mean it's bad. But there is the legal issue
