This one guy seems to keep giving me glandular fever but he looks and feels fine and has no symptoms. Should I tell him to get tested or something? Is it similar to carrying herpes?

He doesn’t “keep” giving it to you, mono is an ongoing illness. The way mono works is similar to the way herpes works, but they are in no way related (mono is not an STD). 
Mono is caused by the Epstein-Barr virus. You can carry it, but never experience symptoms. However, once you have it, it’s with you for life. Some people experience symptoms once in a while, while others get sick once and never experience it again (kind of like herpes, but again, they are in no way related).
It wouldn’t hurt to have a blood test done to see if that’s what’s making you sick. Regardless of what’s making you sick, you should definitely go in for treatment.

Mono is similar to staph. They both live on the skin of most humans. Everyone is a carrier, the only difference is once you have had mono once, you are more likely to get it again
