When to take ovulation test?

So I recently posted that my husband and I stopped taking BC on Sept 10th, and my next period was due Oct 4th, and I finally saw spotting on Oct 19th, only to pretty much disappear after one day... so I am counting that as my first period off birth control. My question is how soon should I begin taking ovulation tests for this cycle and for how many days in a row, since everything seems so unpredictable still... I am fully aware it can take several months for my cycle to balance out after being on the Pill for 4 years, but I want to track my body as naturally as possible... and try to learn how my body is working on its own without all the artificial hormones...
