Just tell them you are calling to check on your application and wanted to see if they need any additional information from you.

Just call and ask for the person who is incoherent of hiring.  And then tell them you're just following up with a resume you submitted!  Good luck!

Pretty much what everyone else is saying. Call in and say “hi, my name is _____. I interviewed with (persons name) on (date) for (position)” and was wanting to follow up. 
We’re hiring at my company right now and the way you call in to ask about the initial position as well as follow up makes a huge impression.
