Can someone explain the UMC to me?

Last year I was forced to be confirmed at a Lutheran church and I had to lie while "confessing my faith in front of people." My family is Lutheran, but I want to switch to the united Methodist church. I go to my grandma's church for youth group and I love it and when I go to church with her sometimes I feel the love of God for once and feel like I am worshipping God without being bored and complaining. I want to become a member, but since I was already confirmed, I am not allowed to be confirmed again. I never got to receive confirmation classes on the united Methodist church. I know you learn about john Wesley, but I don't know who he is. Can someone who was confirmed or is a member of the UMC please take the time to explain what you learned in your UMC confirmation classes and explain john Wesley to me?
