Not quite sure..

Nicole

I’m 15 weeks pregnant today, last night I went to see my primary doctor for some back pain that my OB said wasn’t related to my pregnancy. They took a urine test to see if I have a possible kidney infection and it turns out my glucose was very high. They asked me go have blood drawn first thing this morning, since it was after 5 by the time we found this out last night and most offices were closed. I wasn’t sure if we were looking for gestational diabetes but this mornings blood draw confirms they think I have type 1 or type 2 diabetes, not gestational. They did not have me fast or drink sugar water, I just walked in gave them blood and walked out. My primary doctor called not an hour later and asked that I come back in to review the tests tomorrow, unfortunately I’m not available to go in until Friday so I won’t know anything until then.

Has anyone been diagnosed with type 1 or type 2 diabetes while pregnant? My mom told me they had tested me for diabetes as a child and that the test came back slightly abnormal but they didn’t want to diagnose with diabetes. I’m just shocked and confused, I went in for back pain and now I possibly have diabetes. Im average weight for my height, 5’5” and 130lbs I’ve gained a bit of weight with pregnancy but nothing out of the ordinary.

I was diagnosed with a neurological disorder when I was 14, Chiari malformation type 1 and that already puts me in the high risk side of things and requires me to have a csection birth. I’m just worried about how this will all effect my baby and the rest of my pregnancy.

Thankfully my husband is being so amazing and supportive, he just keeps telling me we’re in this together and he’ll do anything I need to make this easier. I’m very thankful for him right now, I think he’s the only reason I haven’t completely had a melt down and resorted to hiding in my bathtub crying..
