How do you potty train?

I have a 14 month old boy. Not sure when i start. Not sure what I buy ??? Any advice and recommendations ? Thanks !

14 months is way too young unless the child is initiating. They don't really understand their bodily sensations yet. They need to understand the feelings they have ahead of time and then communicate that they need to go and then know what to do. ...that's a lot for that age. You can put a small baby potty in the bathroom with you and see what he does,  but I definitely wouldn't start formal training until age 2 or older.

I started all of my kids at 18 months. I’ve managed to have them all potty trained in three weeks. That also includes being night time trained. We do one full week of naked toddler in the house. Lol.

I always explained to my daughter what I'm doing (peeing, etc.). then when she was about 18 months start telling her it's nice to be dry and clean and I would go on the toilet. (Kids are always following to the bathroom so I figured I'd make good use of our time there together lol). Then I got her her own potty and she would just sit on it sometimes, then we sat together on our thrones. And one day... somehow it all clicked in her little brain, at 22 months she began using her potty. I was taking classes and we had a move planned from one state to another so I kept putting off officially potty training. Thank God she picked it up somehow. But all kids are different. My sister in law had so much trouble with her little guy, but in my opinion she started too early. Because our kids are about three weeks apart, but got pretty good about the potty around the same time even though she started much earlier.

I’m pregnant now with my first (boy) so I have zero experience with this, but I️ came across this the other day and saved it to buy when he does eventually start potty training. Not sure if others have used it and had success, but to me, if you can make it fun and like a game you may have more success. Good luck!!

My daughter is 20 months and just starting to tell me when she goes (she has been for a couple weeks now). My plan is when I’m off the week of Thanksgiving we are going to try a naked toddler running around and start hardcore training. 
At your LO’s age, you can start introducing the potty. My daughter knows where it is and what it’s for. She sits on it before her bath and whenever I’m going.

I potty trained around 30 months. I read the book ‘oh crap! Potty training’ and followed exactly. Worked like a charm. One accident...ever. I would buy the book now as it gives you signs to look for that will tell you when your child is ready.

Buy a potty seat that sits on the toilet just so they can get used to using a regular toilet over a small potty. I would just set your toddler on there every hour or so and if babe goes then good! And start a potty sticker chart. So everytime they go you give them a sticker. That’s what I did with my daughters  I started them both at 11 months. My oldest I started early because I found out I was pregnant when she was that old and I didn’t want two in diapers as that gets expensive. Anyways she was fully trained before she turned 2 and my youngest is pretty much fully potty trained and shes 21 months old. Just trying to work on the night time peeing.
