My Boyfriend’s Promise Ring DIY UPDATE 4 Lost The Ring!
So about a month ago I posted that my boyfriend and I are on agreement of wearing promise rings. I couldn’t find one I liked for men’s rings so I told him and he suggested we make our own for each other. I accepted that challenge and decided to look up rings online easy to make that would fit his finger (a quarter ring will not lol). So I decided to start today, and what I thought would be a project from now until Christmas, is taking a little under an hour (still working on it though). I’m so excited! It’s already looking decent! :D I’m thinking about either a gift for Christmas or his birthday next year (if I can hold onto it that long lol). Here’s the first two steps and I’ll update if anyone cares to see the finished project! :D
Step One: x2 stainless Steele washers and x1 bronze washer. Tinning flux, tin, and a propane torch and torch them together to create this mess lol.
Step Two: Making sure it’s even all around, and then start sanding the top and bottom and then all around so it’s even and looks smooth! (I’m only halfway done with this part, and will update with more pictures once I finish that step!)
I take no credit for the originality of this ring. I got the idea off of YouTube. I might add an engraving if I think I can do it, but we’ll see haha!
Step Three: Keep sanding (I broke down after a while and used my Dremel tool because my fingers were hurting) until the edges flow and are smooth. (Excuse my awful leftover Halloween nail polish lol).
Next I’m going to polish it and work on getting the scratches out. Then work on sizing it. I’m afraid of doing all this pretty work and then messing it up with my unsteady hand and engraving it, so I will either practice on lots of pop bottles or just lay to get that engraved so it looks good lol. Thanks for the comments so far! It might be a bit for the next update because I’m ordering a ring sizer and might not get it for a week or two!
Step Four: Find Out What Size Ring Your Boyfriend Wears (and then lose the ring!) So I realized I should really double check what size ring he wore. I tried on his class ring forever ago and swore we wore the same size but I couldn’t remember what finger. He wears his ring every day, but takes it off for work and puts it in his pocket. Yesterday he got off and wanted to take a shower. He went in without it on and I saw his jeans so I asked if he wanted me to take the jeans to the room so they didn’t get wet. The ring wasn’t in his pants. So I go back to the bathroom and tell him I dropped a bunch of change out of his pocket and was afraid I lost his ring. He said don’t worry about it because the ring wasn’t in his pants, it’s on his nightstand! I found it, then I tried the ring on and we have the same ring finger size! Whoohoo! So I went ahead and sized it to where it’s easy to put on and take off without sliding off.
So as I’m sanding, the Dremel tool pulls the ring off my standing clamp and shoots it across the yard! I almost cry because I lost it for a solid 30 minutes! BUT! I found it, finished the sizing, and now all I have to do is sand down the outside of the ring until it’s wearable for the hand! :D I’m so close I can taste it!
