Suidical boyfriend, want 2 breakup?

My boyfriend and I have been together for over 1 year now and honestly I’m just not wanting to continue it as much as I love him. My studies are getting in the way and it’s ether I fuck up my education in university or I fuck up my love life. Reading this through I know I sound like a shitty person. The thing is my boyfriend says to me like 12 times a nkt has it so that if I ever leave him he’ll kill himself, I know he’s not joking as when we had an argument and stopped speaking to each other for 1 month due to him talking to another girl and telling her  that I had moved away to a different country and left him he started sending me pictures of him cutting himself. I’m just in a really difficult situation because I want what’s best for him and me and obviously I love him, I just don’t want anything to happen to him as it’ll be my fault.

It sounds like he’s using that to manipulate you into staying in the relationship. This is a bad situation and you can’t stay for the sake of someone else. My mom went through this and he was also suicidal because he has mental health issues. He went crazy and got mean so she had to contact his family and tell them what was going on. She told them when she was leaving so they would know to watch him. Using cutting after he’s the one that cheated...I dont even know what to say. This guy has some serious issues and it could turn dangerous for you. You have to do what’s best for you. I know it’s hard to walk away thinking that their life is in your hands. I watched my mom struggle with that. But he didn’t kill himself. He got help because we told his family and they basically made him because he really needed it...bipolar, borderline schizophrenic..
Maybe try contacting people he’s close to, give them a heads up. You guys aren’t married, you don’t have children, you aren’t happy and are worried about college. Staying with him won’t save him no matter what he says. Don’t let him hold his issues against you.

He can’t keep you in a relationship at gun point.  Or razor blade point.  
What’s his game plan? You’ll be hostage to his threats, for..... what, the rest of your life? Pop out a couple of kids so he’ll put the knife down?
Firstly- he’s manipulating you badly.  The crap about self harming and show you evidence is proof of that.  
Secondly- he probably won’t follow through on any of his threats if he thinks there’s no chance of them working.  The whole point of the threats is to manipulate you.  If he can’t do that, he’ll probably give up.
Thirdly- it’s not your responsibility to be his suicide watch team.  There are people who can do that.  Get in touch with them.
Your best bet is to first call his parents (or the most trusted adult(s) in his life).  Explain that you want to break up with him, and that you’re worried and why.  Tell them what he’s done in the past, say you do take his threats seriously, and ask them to step in after the breakup and make sure he’s OK.  Maybe they can fly out to visit him, if they live far away.  Make sure they know when you’re going to do it. 
Then have the conversation with your boyfriend in a quiet corner of a public place- so he can’t freak out.  
Be unflappable.  Be firm.  Tell him you are sorry but you need to cut off all communication completely for the time being (except through his parents if need be).
Say the reason for the no-contact thing (why you’re blocking his number) is because you don’t want him to think there’s a chance you might respond if he sends another photo of his cut arms.
You have to leave open no possible avenue through which he can attempt to manipulate you in this way.  That’s for HIS good.  So that he is more likely to give up on the self-harm.
Then follow through.   
You are not obligated to stay with this man for the rest of your life.  Breaking up with him is the right move.  But you should do it lovingly- in a way that is sensitive to his issues.  
This approach rallies his support from his family and doesn’t leave any room for dangling maybes to keep him trying.
It seems harsh because it’s definitive.
But the only way to break up with someone kindly is by being definitive about it.
In his case, he needs extra love and consideration.
This is how you provide that on the way out.

My ex did this to me all the time. In the end it caused my own depression to get worse and I decided I couldn’t take it anymore. We got into a fight and he took what I said to heart and decided we should break up. For some reason both being with me and without me made him “want to end it all”, but the thing is he’s still around and I’m still around and that’s not going to change.
At the end of the day it’s emotional blackmail and it sucks to suffer through it. I started to fall behind in my degree and i even fell out with my family and friends over the whole ordeal. Now I’m single and I’ve been the happiest I’ve been in over a year. I’ve realised who my real friends are and my family are closer than ever. I’ve even met some great new guys and if I didn’t still have to live with my ex I’d barely even notice him or remember what he did to me.
It might hurt to think about or hear about, especially from complete strangers, but at the end of the day you need to think about yourself and put your needs first. They say that “nothing good ever comes easy” but being with someone like that isn’t a good thing. If you’re worried about him, make sure to leave it on good terms if you can, or at least ensure he has a good support network to surround him in the aftermath. That’s if you decide to break it off.
