Pregnant in an SEN School
Hi everyone!
This is my first baby!!
I’m 5 weeks and 5 days after TTC for 2 years 🎉
This is a quick question for all the Teachers/Teaching Assistant Mummas out there!
I currently work in an Austistic Unit and I am working with year 1,
Due to the nature of my work I have had to tell my Work already that I am pregnant as it is considered a high risk job, as sometimes the children will unpredictably strike out which means we have to physically intervene.
Since I have told my Work I have been told not to get involved in any physical interventions as it can be harmful to me and the baby (which is acceptable). I was however told that any sign of trouble to get out the classroom and call for support.
Now as many people will know 5-6 years olds do not give much warning when they are going to throw a tantrum and are quite spontaneous with their actions and this will not give me enough time to get out the way!
This has resulted in me being hit in my stomach roughly 12 times in the last week (baby is fine btw)
I have asked my headteacher to be moved on to light duties until after Christmas as I will then be entering he 2nd trimester and it won’t be such a risk to me.
I have been told that I will be put into a year 6 class and someone will have to swap in to my class, which I’m feeling slightly uncomfortable with because I don’t want to cause any upset between my colleagues and let my class down.
Does anyone have any recommendations or been in a similar situation that could offer some advice.
I’m the first pregnant member of staff ever in the school and I feel like the management are scratching their heads about what to do!
Thank you ♥️♥️
