Would Ella be a short form for Violet?

Baby is coming via c section on Tuesday! We haven't really officially agreed on a name. SO really likes Ella and so do I but I'd like it to be a nickname instead of just the full name. I really like Violet but he'll only agree if we can call her Ella. I also like Eloise if violet doesn't work out. Please help!!! 
Btw Grace will be the middle name and my other daughter is Amelia Rose

Eloise works as a name that can be shortened to Ella. Violet is a pretty name but shortening it to Ella makes no sense; I don't see how you could get Ella from it.

My daughter's name is Violet and I would never call her Ella. Just name her Ella if you like it.

My mother's name is Ella May Rose.  Ella May is her first name.   She is named after her Grandmother.  The whole Violet but being called Ella makes no sense.      My youngest daughter is Megan Grace I often call her Gracie or Gracie Lu hoo but again there is a connection
