Depo shot? Thoughts?

I’m looking into BC but have been told by doc to steer clear from oral contraceptives bc I’m a headache/migraine sufferer. What have people’s experiences been with the depo shot? What side effects have you had? Need some gal pal advice, halp! 💜

I personally do not recommend the depo shot, for personal and physical reasons. I was on this shot when I was 15-16 years old, I was sexually active and spoke to my mother about being on some form of protection. Although she was not happy about having a sexually active teenager she helped me take the steps to have contraceptive. The depo was a conclusion we came to. Now some women will stop getting their period as a side effect, I was the exact opposite. I constantly had my period, not heavy but I had it everyday for months. I also had very severe depression and ended up losing alot of weight. I was 112 at the beginning of the year, which for my height and body type that was a very healthy weight for me, I dropped to 86-89 pounds and I ate like any teenager would. it wasn't until I got off of the shot that my period regulated and I gained some of the weight back. I will also say that I have always had issues with birth control though. I tried oral contraceptives which worked well when. I switched to low estrogen pills which worked for maybe a year and I had break through bleeding , which I ended up having my period twice a month. I switch oral pills again with a higher dosing and that was a mistake as well. I ended up having a HEAVY cycle that did not stop until I stopped the pill and gave me serious mood swings. My boyfriend begged me to get off of them. With all that to be considered. I may just be one of those women who just has a bad reaction to birth control, but the depo was the worst of them all and took way longer to get out of my system. A few other women I have spoken to had the shot have not had very good experiences at all. My cousin is the only woman I know that did not have issues with it. Best of luck to you

I was on it for like 9 years. Super simple to use just go in every 3 months for your shot you have a 2 week window or so to go in. The only issue I had was weight gain ( which can happen from any bc) other than that the only other thing that happened was no period for 9 years 😆 it only took 3 months when I stopped it for my period to come back which is about the length of time each shot lasts
