Waking Newborn!?

Question

Do you wake your baby to eat? I was told by nurses not to let baby sleep through feedings.

I woke my baby to feed her but that was to get her weight up and then when she gained more weight I let her sleep and wake up on her own

my daughter is breastfed and I wake her to eat during the night ever 2 to 2.5 hours. her weight is good but mostly to keep my supply.

I never woke my son to feed him after the first 2 weeks. He was a deep sleeper. He also was always a good weight. I might have woken him more if he had a weight problem. He would be hungrier and eat bigger meals, then sleep better if I let him wake up on his own.

My sister in-law had to wake my niece to feed her only because she was having trouble gaining weight. Once she had gained enough weight she would let her sleep until she woke herself up.

From experience you regret not waking them for a feed. I’ll definitely be waking this baby if she’s due for a feed to help keep my supply up and get baby into a good routine

i have 2 boys and never once woken them up to feed them. they woke up when they were hungry and were never behind schedule on weight. perfectly fine to let them sleep.

The midwife at our antenatal class said to do this and that you might even see them suckling or getting restless in their deep sleep. Their stomachs are so so tiny as newborns they need it regularly and have probably used up a hell of a lot of energy being born. Good for productive too I’d imagine.

With my first daughter I had to wake her, i was told not to let her go more than 3 to 4 hours tops.
