Cycle question

I’m 33 years old and I have very little idea how my body works, lol. My cycles have never been regular and I want to try for #2. Last month I thought I was right on track and then my period showed up 10 days early. So this month I decided to try the ovulation sticks just to see if they work. If I dont produce an egg this month does that mean I’m don’t producing them? Or do they really just appear that randomly?
