Both my sister inlaws nurse in front of everyone, it is great! I am due soon but am a really private person and probably won't even want to feed in front of anyone except my husband, and will be exclusively pumping for other reasons. What do you say to excuse yourself from family, especially in laws? I don't want it to be offensive to my sisters-in-law, but I also am uncomfortable sitting out with everyone else.

I personally won’t feed or pump in front of anyone except my husband.
It’s my personal choice as I’m very conservative.

just say "be right back gotta go pump!" it really shouldn't be that big of a deal. if you're at their houses ask where you can go to pump for a bit. if they're already used to breastfeeding in general it shouldn't be an issue I would think.

Feeding and pumping are different for me... at least with breast feeding your babies head is blocking the view of your breast and you can’t see your nipple all stretched out spraying milk.. I don’t feel comfortable pumping in front of anyone but I’m fine with breastfeeding although I choose to cover myself out of respect for other people.

My fil would leave the room. I’d whip them out and not give af. Don’t wanna see me feed baby/pump gtfo of my house. Lol when I Went to their house I’d pump in their library. Id excuse myself if not in my place

I nurse around my in laws, but always excused myself to a bedroom to pump because it involves both breasts being exposed, massaging them, and just isn’t something I do in front of people. I will pump around my husband and my other kids, but even my family I go upstairs.

I cover up while nursing or I go off in private. I've never been one to 'whip it out' in mixed company just because it's polite to accommodate others WHEN POSSIBLE. As for pumping, I'm not comfortable doing that ALONE! Seriously, you pumping moms ROCK. I would simply say that you're pumping, so you prefer to do that in private. They're baby to void nursing so it's different and I don't think anyone will see you as rude.

Just tell them you want to go do it in private. Making a big deal out of it might make others uncomfortable. I always covered up while breastfeeding around anyone. But my step mom made a big deal about me breastfeeding at her house the first time I went there after having my daughter and it made me really uncomfortable to be there.

My SIL has breastfed in front of me. And none of my husband's family would care. But I care. I have a couple of covers. I would cover or just go somewhere to feed. I'd go in a different room to pump. That's me.
