My boyfriend is saying he will commit suicide if I leave him. What should I do? (He’s depressed)

So last night I tried to break up with my boyfriend. Mainly because he kept on asking me for money since he spent it all on clubbing and cocaine. He is so in love with me and he snapped and said he’s going to jump off a bridge. He keeps saying he’ll do it because he’s nothing without me. I don’t know what to do. If I stay with him, I’ll feel too controlled and unhappy. If I leave, I don’t know how I’m going to live a life if he actually does go for it. Please help me out! :((

I️ agree that you should leave. And I️ think calling the cops for mentally being a danger to himself is important. It not only makes him realize how serious his problem is but also might wake him up a bit to get the help he needs. I️ would call the moment you leave. This gives you the reassurance that you did everything you could. And also gives the cops a chance before he does something stupid. Being strong is not putting up with toxic people but letting them go. Even if you like this person it does not mean you should be in a relationship with him. I broke up with my boyfriend a few months ago. He kept telling me that he was going to kill himself. It absolutely destroyed me. When I told my mum and a mutual friend they both said to me that he was just saying it to keep me. My mum said that she watched a documentary and it’s known that someone who kills them selves actually don’t tell anyone. It definitely felt like verbal abuse to me. After all that he didn’t kill himself. Instead he just caused drama. I blocked him, he’s lies and drama are irrelevant to my life.

Leave him. You’re not responsible for his life, and I can tell you that, even depressed, if he was going to kill himself, he wouldn’t tell anyone, and certainly not in response to you wanting to break up with him.
