Questions

I have a few questions and I'm hoping this community can help me expand my knowledge on sexuality & gender! Please know that I am asking from a place of curiosity and kindness for everyone, I in no way mean for these questions to come off as oppressive or degrading.

First, what does queer mean? I've heard of many different meanings for this, so I'm not sure which is true. As far as I know, queer is an individual who believes that their sexuality and gender are fluid. Is this correct?

And my last question, I know what non-binary means, an individual feels that they do not belong in a box of a labelled gender and they/them are the correct pronouns. However, I have trouble understanding this. What does non-binary mean to you specifically, why do you prefer this term to that of a certain gender, I don't know how else to word this so I apologize, but what is your reasoning for this?

I accept and respect everyone's feelings, as their gender/sexual identity is THEIR own, and does not affect me in any way. This term is just one I have trouble with, as I am a cisgendered woman and have not came across this often. I'm aware I'm speaking and asking these questions from a place of privilege, so I'm hoping when answering my questions you're all able to understand I would just like to have a better understanding of concepts I find difficult. Thank you!
