Talking for 3 months

So I’ve been talking to this guy for about 3 months now and we’ve moved at a pretty slow pace (which I’m totally okay with!). We’re both juniors in college but we go to different schools, he’s an athlete and I work a lot. So it’s been pretty tricky for us to get together and go on dates. The first time we hung out, we didn’t do anything (sex or hook up) we just cuddled and got to know each other. He said that we were going to date two times that evening so I knew he was interested in me. The second time we went out on a date and he told me how he used to move quickly in to relationships and realized he needed to move slow. All of my guy friends told me this was a good sign, because we haven’t had sex and that he’s still around taking his time he sees me as a potential girlfriend. However, he’s a terrible texter, and sometimes I really can’t read if he’s wants me or not. I know he’s interested in me but I don’t know if it’s enough for him to want to take the next step. Should I ask him how he thinks this is going the next time we go out? I feel like a guy wouldn’t stick around if he hadn’t had sex with a girl and didn’t see a potential with her, right? Im totally overthinking this I know lol
