Maternity Leave?

Hi ladies. When are you going on leave? I don't qualify for paid leave and am not sure how to afford it. My husband gets leave through his work but dosnt know if he will be able to take it as they don't pay either. I've read Michigan dosnt offer short term disability for pregnancy either. We had tried to save money but things have been so tight we decided not to do Christmas which is fine because we both agreed baby was a perfect enough gift❤👶. Any thoughts?

I'll leave 1 week prior to my due date. It will give me time to finalize what I need and rest. I'm lucky enough to live in FL where short term and long term will pay due to my time in position at work.

I’ll work until I go into labor, or get told by my doctor I need to. It sounds like for your best interest you should work as long as you can, since you don’t get any sort of compensation once you do go on leave.

Wow luckily here in the U.K. It's pretty different. I was on maternity leave for my daughter from October 2016 and went back at the beginning of October 2017, but I was also 24 weeks pregnant, had 7 weeks worth of annual leave which I had to take before the end of the year, and also had a 4 weeks sickness allowance incase I wasn't well, I worked for a few weeks and then had to go off sick as I suffer from back pains, so I was off for 4 weeks on sick and have been on annual leave for 2 weeks till the end of the year and then m maternity leave starts at the beginning of January. And I get 90% pay through work for 6 weeks and then 33 weeks at SMp which works out at about £600 here in the U.K., but then I also receive some benefits, which equal to about £1200 a month including my pay. That's here in the U.K. Though and everyone isn't eligible for these benefits, depending on your personal circumstances. Can't you claim any benefits where you live? I think the system there is very unfair, you should be able to celebrate Christmas and also your new baby and spend time with your child. This makes me sad, as at times, I take my maternity pay for granted. Best of luck.

I got put on FMLA at 30 weeks. Unpaid. Not sure how we’re financially going to do this with me not working for a few months....but I physically couldn’t anymore. Was too painful. I’m 33 weeks now
