PCOS SKIN CARE - LONG POST
Hey ladies, I recently was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. Here’s the deal: I found out when I got off the birth control I’d been taking for three years. Pre-BC, I had debilitating periods - cramps, extremely heavy flow, constant exhaustion, bleeding for 9-12 days at a time, nausea, everything. Plus, I’m anemic so that much heavy bleeding was hitting me so hard. BC pretty much saved my life. It wasn’t my choice to stop taking it, I moved cities and a doctor I chose to see wrote my prescription for it for one month only. When I tried to get a refill, he denied to to me, and my pharmacy with no reason why, no phone calls, didn’t return my calls or voicemails, I even went to his office in person where he refused to see me. This dude fucked me over. The following month where I was off BC, looking for a doctor who took my insurance, I didn’t have a period from July until September when I got back on my BC. My period is back to being regular, but when I was off my BC, I was suddenly riddled with acne on my face. All through puberty, I never had acne. My skin has always been clear & mostly healthy aside from occasionally getting dry in the winter. Obviously I’ve tried new face washes, acne cleansers, face masks, you name it. Everything but acne pills. My doctor said with my BC getting out of whack, my PCOS created an increase in my testosterone, causing my acne. Even with all the trying I did, this acne is not subsiding. I know why, it’s because it isn’t an oily skin/problem skin issue, it’s hormonal. So I was just posting to ask my PCOS sisters what they do for skin care. Help ya girl out?
