Cat eating Christmas tree!!😔

My cat is such a little shit. I love him, but ugh, he keeps sneaking and eating the Christmas tree when we’re not looking and he just threw up a a hair ball full of pine needles and I know they can be harmful to not just digestion, but can cause punctures. He threw it up, so obviously it didn’t make it that far through, but like I can’t just lock him in my room until Christmas is over. Have any of you Cat mommas had to deal with this? My last cat would climb it, not eat it, but we also used to have a fake tree, so we didn’t really have to worry about him trying to eat it. My new Cat, god love him, would even probably eat fake tree needles! Any suggestions on how to get him to not eat it? I might call my vet just to be safe and ask what advice they have for making him not want to eat it. I love my little guy but he’s not the brightest cat ever smh! He’s like a puppy!!😩
