Can my newborn see anything?

My son is 1 week old today and I know they can't see much but should he be reacting to things very close up yet? like if I wave my hand in front of his face should he follow? just want to know what's normal and what's not. thanks!

Download the app “baby see”. It allows you to have baby vision based on babies age. Pretty interesting! 
At one week your LO’s vision is pretty blurry still. I agree with the other poster, give it some time :)

At this age he won't really follow objects. At a couple weeks old the only thing that caught my daughters attention were high contrast things and every once in a while something that was red.

He can't control the muscles well enough to really follow anything yet, but I bet if you put your face close to his he'll focus on you for a little while. They love to look at mommy and daddy.
