can I use a stool softener??? I'm 8 weeks pregnant and very constipated

My doc said I could have any fiber stool softer like Colace.  Colace works for me, but I usually up my water and fiber intake and end up going.  During my first pregnancy,  I was horribly constipated and found that it was the prenatal I was on.  after I switched to Vitafol Ultra I was good.

You can NOT have anything that involves the word “lax”. Laxatives are not healthy for pregnancy. Colase is your best bet.

Prune juice!! Natural too! We had a friend who was trying everything he could to ‘go’ I told him prune juice and that night he definitely ‘went’.

FigNewton cookies work for me and keep me regular. I have 3 a day. If I don’t eat them I will poop like 1 time a week. Terrible. Try that

Stool softeners don’t fix current constipation, it’s only for maintenance to prevent it. Magnesium citrate is safe during pregnancy and works like a charm. You can buy it over the counter at any pharmacy for like $2. It usually takes anywhere from 1-6 hours to work. Drink lots of water with it and walk around and it will work faster. Another quicker option is an enema if you want to try that. Once you’re so constipated stool softeners and laxatives don’t work. Good luck mama! I had to take mag citrate twice in my pregnancy, sucks being constipated.

You can have miralax. I mix it in apple juice.

I have tried stool softeners and they don't seem to work for me.. lots and lots of fruits works like a charm though!
