Do you think a guys should ask for the fathers blessing?

No matter how long you have been together do you think a guy should ask the women’s father for him blessing ( if no Dad then mom or whoever is family). We found out my husbands sister just got engaged and he never asked her dad for his blessings and he didn’t know until I asked what he thought about it and was like “What are you talking about” and I was like um the engagement. I think you should ask no matter what.

And if the father says no? The relationship must end or stay stagnant? I think it's an old fashioned tradition. If someone wants to then sure, but I don't think it should be a must. Two adults can do what they want.

Nah. Not unless he wants to marry my dad in which case, he's free to do so, but my dad doesn't run my life.
In saying that, I love my father to pieces but I know if my husband had asked my dad would have made the same joke about my husband asking him to marry him 😂

i think its an outdated tradition. this dates back to when women were bought and sold like cattle and the prospective husband would negotiate with the father for transfer of ownership. marriage was a businesslike arrangement and used to bargain for status, financial, or in the case of ruling  classes, political gain. i dont see why a parent should have any say in their childs life partner. anyway this is my personal opinion as someone coming from a very dysfunctional family. i dont believe my family would even act in my best interests. my father and his side of the family are full of racists with very ignorant views on everything. they go to church but are deceptive and ruthless people. i know very well they arent happy about me getting married to my partner (who is a turk). Anyway, I guess I would ask what would you do if your father disapproved? because if it wouldnt affect your decision to marry, whats even the point?

My husband asked my dad even when my dad and I weren’t talking really. I think it’s out of respect.

My fiancé talked to both my mom and dad about marrying me before proposing. Now what exactly was said during that conversation I don’t know but we’re engaged so I guess it went good?😅 I think it’s a sign of respect to the family and just a way to give a heads up. I know I’m no ones property but I still want my family’s approval of my future husband. It also doesn’t help I’ve always been a daddy’s girl.😅

ew no. it’s creepy and weird to ask someone else permission to make a life decision that doesn’t involve that someone else. keep it between the two people who are in the relationship.

Love my dad to death but this isn’t his decision to make, it’s mine. It’s an old mentality that was understandable back then but not anymore. If people want to pursue it as a tradition, I personally don’t see the issue but I honestly i do not believe that it has anything to do with a lack of respect in 2017. My husband did not ask my dad and he sure pays him great respect but to me.
