Religion differences
My son went to my FIL and MIL house this past weekend. I get a call last night from the MIL (step) about how she sent me an email from church. They took my son to a dinner party and my son was asking about the advent wreath they had displayed. So she explained what it was.. I’m not religious whatsoever and I honestly didn’t even know what that was but I just sat there listening. She said he was very curious. Ok fine. They then went to some house that is always decorated and they had the scene with baby Jesus. She started talking about it and my son was like that’s baby Jesus? You could tell in her voice she was shocked that he didn’t know the story of Christmas. Also sounded very judgmental. I just said well you know I’m not religious. She then said but your dad is catholic. I said well my whole dads side of the family went to catholic school when they were younger. They mainly went because you didn’t want to send your kids to public school in Detroit (I didn’t say this part). I told her no one in my family goes to church even though they grew up in catholic school. She then was like I guess they don’t teach kids about the story of Christmas in school. I started laughing and said they don’t teach religion in school. She then went on a rant about how religion should be taught in school. I don’t think it should but I didn’t say anything. So she sent me an email from her church to read to my son. I keep my mouth shut most of the time because I don’t agree with anything they say especially political. Does anyone have any advice on how to get someone to stop pressuring you to be religious. I feel like saying let’s bring out the Bible but I’m also bringing out every other religions book and he should learn about all of them. I’ve borrowed my friends Quran!
