ANYONE WORKING IN CHILD CARE?

I’m really contemplating studying child care very shortly except I have researched the pay rates can be really low, can anyone in the industry shed some pros and cons? And let me know roughly your hourly rate etc? Thanks ladies 🙂

It's not worth the pay AT ALL. I have a degree in the child Psychology relm, as well as years of experience. Not including my state certification and CPR/first aid. With all of that being said, 12 daycares have offered me between $10-15 an hour. It's ridiculously low. You don't need a degree to work in childcare, do it and see if you like it. In the meantime, I suggest using your degree for something higher paying.

I went to school for three years to be a child psychologist in that time I worked at a day care for the last semester I attended. let me tell you something if you're gonna work in that field do it on your terms and research wherever it is you are thinking about working. I got fired because I refused to lie to the health department inspector. where we live the ratio of kids in a two year old room is roughly 1 teacher to every 5 students well they only followed that rule when the inspector was coming. I kid you not the boss was running from room to room saying okay you are here you're here. pick this up do this do that then the moment the inspector would leave they'd put it all back to the way it was. so I decided I was going to tell the inspector. they saw me talking to her before she left. I didn't tell her then Because prying ears but I was going to later. they fired me the very next day blamed it on my school schedule not allowing me to open and close every freaking night 6 days a week. like seriously come on.e needless to say working there changed everything for me I haven't finished my degree because of that horrible experience and honestly I don't think I ever will. right now I'm happy taking care of my son. I no longer trust an of the day cares in the town I live in because of that experience. good luck everyone has different experiences and I hope yours is better.

I’m temporarily out of the field caring for my own little one, but childcare is all I’ve ever worked. The last center I was at I received around 12 an hour. 
Cons: The pay and some of the parents (woo man lol) - Sometimes you won’t get the respect you deserve from them. (watch out for the other coworkers as well) - Also, it does take mental preparation. Especially if you are working with more difficult children. Some days I came home in love with my job and others I came home crying lol - some people sign up to be in childcare because they think it’s the “easy” way out 🤷🏽‍♀️ Which becomes a total slap of reality when they realize that being responsible for a bunch of beings is harder than it looks! Most of the centers have mostly women because 1. A lot of the men don’t have an interest in that line of work & 2. There is an unfair stigma on men. Parents are afraid to trust them because they might “hurt” the child 🙄 both genders are capable though so I think it’s ridiculous.... but anyways back to my point! With a bunch of women, there will be groups and gossip, something I’ve learned I can’t escape from no matter what center I work in. And once your periods sync up, it can be hell!!
Pros: How much undying love your kids will have for you!! They will most likely make you things, give you hugs, etc. After I left my job, even thinking about the more difficult ones, I miss them too!! Also, the good parents will sometimes treat you with gifts and they will put their trust in you, making you parent/child/teacher relationship really great. It’s fun and rewarding to see the children learn something you taught them, or start to copy you and be the “teacher” on their free play time.
I don’t know what age you prefer, but I can help answer any questions you have if you have any :) I’ve worked with special needs, traditional functioning children, in daycares, public and private schools! Ages 6 weeks to 8 years old. I don’t know everything and I’m sure others can answer more than I, but I can try and help if you need it!
