Copper or Hormonal IUD?

I'm 18 and thinking about getting on birth control. I like that the copper IUD is hormone free but I have read that the hormonal IUD worsens period symptoms. Would love to read any thoughts, opinions and experiences of those more knowledgable in the world of contraception than I. Pros and cons please?

I have the mirena hormonal iud which only has one hormone . The hormones don’t effect me in a negative way. But the only thing I have bad about it is I’ve only had it a week but my strings are cut short so I can’t feel them. Sometimes they retract into my cervix. So that freaks me out not knowing if it’s in place. I only spotted for the first couple days. My friend has the copper iud and loves it because she can’t take hormones it makes her crazy. But she did say her periods are way worse. They make them longer and heavier. From what I was told if you’ve never had a kid the copper iud is more likely to expel because it is bigger.  But doesn’t mean it will. Just talk to your doctor and they will recommend what’s best for you.

I personally don’t like the idea of the IUD and all the possible complications. 
Each type of birth control affects every individual woman differently, but I’ve heard more bad than good things about IUDs from everyone I know who has/had one. Especially the copper one. Talk to your doctor about it, but ask for your other options as well.

the copper one can make periods worse, the hormonal can get rid of periods or just make them shorter and less painful. I would recommend the hormonal (I have the mirena coil)
