Why do I keep seeing people having early scans? Like 6/7/8 weeks?

I’m UK, and we don’t get scanned till 12 weeks??
Just wondered if location is the reason, or if it’s more likely for other medical reasons..

As a Canadian I think a lot of American doctors just milk every penny they can out of peoples insurance, so they send them for unnecessary tests just because it’s covered.

In the US it really depends on the dr and your insurance coverage. I get one at 7 or 8 weeks. But I pay for good insurance coverage about $500 a month just for me. So they better the hell pay for it lol.

I live in the US and my first ultrasound was at 8 weeks. No complications.

I’m in Canada and first scan is 12 weeks too. It makes me so nervous seeing everyone’s early US knowing I have no clue what is going on in my belly!

I had a few early scans (at 4ish and 8 weeks) because I had just had an ectopic. I was under the impression that the first is often between 8-12 weeks for a typical pregnancy, but it must depend on your doctor.

In the us, most doctors have you get an ultrasound around 8-12 weeks to date the pregnancy and then again 18-22 for the anatomy scan. High risk pregnancies get them earlier and more frequently

I’m in the US. And we normally don’t get scheduled with our doctors for ultrasounds until 12 weeks unless...
1. High risk.
For me that was why. My first was at what we thought would be 8 weeks and I ended up being 10, so it’s a good thing they did it when they did or I would have missed an opportunity for tests that had to be done.
2. Don’t know when your last period was or unsure of possible conception dates. 
3. They go to the ER and/or they pay a special place to do an early ultrasound.

im in australia and dont have my first scan until 12 weeks. ive found it hard seeing peoples early scans and hoping my baby is there and healthy at 12 weeks!
