Is it rude to not open gifts at your shower?

Question

My baby shower was something my in laws wanted so they can celebrate with their friends and family so I am obliging. 
I am a little excited but only because I get to decorate. The idea of staying there for hours sitting in a chair and generally being uncomfortable is not sitting well with me though but I am doing it for them. 
That said, I’m also a private person and hate the spotlight and I also feel like gifts are a private thing and some people feel obligated to bring a gift even if they don’t really have the means. 
I don’t want to open gifts and people compare them. It’s mean and the gifts are appreciated but not necessary.   
Would it be rude to not open gifts at all?

Your guests will expect to see you open and react to their gift. I had my husband join the shower for the gift opening to help it go faster and split the attention.

That's one of the main reasons why I didn't have a shower. I had a party after baby was born for the baby and didn't open gifts there. But if it makes you uncomfortable, don't do it.

Here’s an idea. Have two spots for gifts (2 separate tables, separate corners, etc) One table can be labeled “To be opened today” and the other “to be opened later”. That way people who really want you to open them can have that option, but people who don’t want their gifts broadcast don’t have to sit through that

Maybe do it at the very end so watching is optional. I know lots of people love seeing reactions of giving gifts, I feel like it would be rude not to. But hey you’re also pregnant soooo lol

Do you mean not ever it just not in front of them? 
If you explain to people maybe but at the end of the day people live to see how happy you are over something they got you - it’s not about you it’s about them. If I was you I would open them at the shower and be really thankful for each and every one you get 😃

Have everyone grab a plate of food and open while they eat. And have conversations while you do it. Or try a game like “baby shower bingo”. You really do need to open the presents and express gratitude though, even if you don’t really know the guests. Remember it’s a way to honor those attending and throwing the shower.

I've heard of baby showers where ppl are asked not to wrap their presents, and they are displayed for everyone to see. everyone hates the opening of the presents, the guest of honor and the guests.
