Formula preparation

Do you clean the lid to powdered formula? I have been removing the lid and washing it in hot soapy water and letting it air dry, I just purchased a new formula and can't seem to get the lid off so I just wiped it down with a hot soapy cloth and then again with a hot wet cloth (no soap) just wondering what others do?
