LONG LAST OF THE YEAR LABOR

Donna

Here's the story of my labor & delivery -

It started at 8AM the 29th. Contractions hurt badly but were bareable, I could talk through them but not walk. I went into the hospital at noon, thinking that 4 hours of home-labor would be enough to have some dilation. I was wrong, I was only 2cm.

After they sent me home around 4 maybe, contractions were so bad I cried and screamed and moaned and groaned. I took a bath. I tried to lay down. I tried walking, swinging my hips, I tried EVERYTHING. The first time I tried walking through my contractions, I fell to my knees. I had never experienced pain the way I did for those 5 hours. I eventually called the doctor crying & she said to come back in & they could atleast get me pain meds. The nurse said I was at 8cm, but I was really only 4. The doctor broke my water completely because I think I was only trickling.

An epidural is a life saver. I was scared that it was going to hurt but it didn't, and the contraction pain ceased. They put me on Pitocin, to get my contractions closer together. Baby was not wanting to come out. I was able to get 1-2 hours of sleep before being jolted out of it around 7AM from excruciating pain in front of my pelvis. I was 9 cm. 10cm within 10 more minutes. And then a baby within 10 more. But that half hour or so of contractions that DIDNT get blocked from the epidural (mostly the pressure, I guess), I thought I was dying. I thought there was some complication & I was seriously dying.

I had hunter put on some Marilyn Manson & I delivered to his songs, focusing on that instead of the pain. If your pain meds aren't working- try MUSIC. It really helped. Seriously.

The baby came fast & quick. My mom held one leg, hunter held the other. My legs were so numb they kept closing and falling over without help.

I opted for immediate skin to skin, and didn't want to let her go. I held her as my boyfriend cut the cord, and as

I was given 3 stitches. I was in awe of how beautiful she was. I still am.

23 & a half hours later, December 30th 7:26AM, I had my baby Aurora ❤️
