Boyfriend doesn’t like my tattoo

I have a tattoo of a small tree on my wrist, it is facing up from my POV with the top of the tree pointing towards my hand, from onlookers the tree is upside when I hold my arms naturally at my side. I got the tattoo when I was young (17), it is matching with my mom and holds sentimental value to me and I’ve never regretted it for a moment. Here comes the part of my boyfriend not liking it, I was talking to him about getting a new tattoo and his response was - “how about fixing the one on your arm first?” I asked him what he meant by this and he proceeded to tell me that he thinks the tattoo would be a lot better facing the other direction because it is upside down and therefore wrong/ugly. The tattoo may be upside down to onlookers, however from MY POV (the only one that really should matter) it is facing upwards. When I respectfully told him he hurt my feelings and should have just kept his opinion to himself, he got defensive and angry and has now turned away from me with the covers over his head. I feel very hurt, I have had this tattoo on my body now for 5 years and I have never gotten any sort of negative reaction until now. I know everyone is entitled to their own opinions and of course you can’t please anybody, but it doesn’t change the fact that his words hurt. I don’t know what to say to my boyfriend, am I the one overreacting? I just really wish he hadn’t said anything at all. It’s not like I can go change it, nor do I want to. :-(
