period symptoms after birth control

Ok, so I stopped taking the pill a week ago, had my "period," and now I'm officially off contraception. while on the pill, of course my periods were pretty easy, a little cramping, but short and moderate flow. Before I started BC, when I was in high school, I had heavy flow, threw up on the first day just about every time, TERRIBLE cramps, just a nightmare. Is this what I'll be going back to??? I've been on the pill for 16 years, so I feel like I have no idea what to expect going forward. Has anyone had experience with this?
