Cervix short?

I’m 35 weeks and my doctor told me my cervix is short which means I can go into early labor. But why does that happen? This is my second baby and I can definitely say both pregnancy’s have been sooo different. Now that I’m in my last weeks sometimes I’ll feel like my vagina I wouldn’t say “hurting”but it’s just something I’m always feeling there idk why

I have a short cervix or well I have cervical incompetence. I went into labor at 22 wks last year and my baby girl was born the next day. She passed away shortly after birth. My doctor said if she had bee just a few weeks older even two more weeks she might have lived. But at least we know what it is and this pregnancy I'm getting a cerclage put in. I was told I have a short cervix on Thursday at my 20 week scan as well. They didn’t really give me much information except that it was 1.97 cm & normally it should be 3.5-4.0cm. I was prescribed vaginal progesterone suppositories & have another appointment scheduled for next week to check again. I’m just hoping the progesterone helps, I’m pretty nervous but trying to stay calm.

I had a short cervix starting at 20 weeks. By the time I hit 24 weeks it get very short 80% effaced and I was put on bedrest until my girls were born. I lasted 8 more weeks luckily until I was 100% effaced. It’s just usually a week cervix. I had greater risk since I had twins but everyone is different. Luckily 35 weeks is pretty good, do you know how short it is?
