Why do some people think there should not be a second baby shower?

I have always heard different views on this, but I don't understand why some people think a second baby shower is not okay, so please enlighten me. Thanks for the responses everyone.

I don't have a problem with it per se,  but I was personally uncomfortable having one. It's said to 'celebrate the baby', but to me, with a shower, truly the focus is on giving attention to the mom and opening  gifts. I wasn't comfortable having another one especially since my kids are close in age. I had a welcome baby party after 2nd baby was born. The focus was not just on me and gifts, in fact I didn't even open gifts at the event. Everyone got to meet the baby (no holding), spend time with my toddler and dote on him for becoming a big brother....to me, that was more of a celebration of the baby and family.

A shower is a gift giving party to “shower” the honoree with gifts. With a baby shower the idea is to get the parents the things they need that they don’t already have. For a second baby, the parents should already have all the big things from the previous child. And for a second (or more) child your friends and family have already purchased gifts for your first child, they shouldn’t be obligated to give another gift. 
Now if you want to hold a celebration for your other pregnancies/babies, go for it. Just don’t call it a shower, because a shower by nature is a gift giving party.

I think its up to each individual person 🤷🏻‍♀️ some people have 4+ kids and a shower for each. I think of baby showers as celebrations of a baby’s life personally and feel each should get their own

I think traditionally “showers” were meant as opportunities for people to give presents. Which is also why traditional etiquette would say that you can’t throw your own. 
I think all babies should be celebrated, but I wouldn’t call parties for them “showers”. Theoretically you should have everything you need left over.

I don’t have a problem with people having a second baby shower however I think that people probably think that you shouldn’t have a second one because of the fact people already bought you gifts once and it’s a lot to ask people to buy you more but i guess it’s no different then people buying gifts for every birthday so I say go ahead and have a second shower especially if the gender is different

I don’t understand either. 
People should celebrate that second baby no matter what. And heck if they want another shower for their third and fourth who cares??? To me, it’s not about gifts but more about people coming together to celebrate.
 
I mean, there always seems to be something to whine or be offended about these days! Why rain on someone else’s parade. Lol 🙄🤔😂

Where I’m from a second shower is seen as greedy and tacky. Unless there’s 5+ years between kids.  Some people have “sprinkles” for children of a different sex, but it’s usually just a few close friends and families and usually involves just clothes and small items. My family would be mortified if i wanted a second shower for my next child.... it’s also why I registered for all gender neutral big items even though I was well aware I was having a boy.
I’m not sure if it’s because our showers are different than they are in other parts of the country.  I see a lot of women in this app talk about not bothering with registries because people don’t look at them or talking about how they got a lot of clothes and diapers..... our showers in my area tend to be a lot of large items.  At my shower, all of my furniture was purchased, all of my car seats, swings, toys and high chairs. Literally the only things I had to buy myself was some clothes and diapers (even though I received those too).  Maybe if our showers were smaller and people spent less money, we would have them for more than one baby🤷🏼‍♀️

I felt weird about having a second shower after reading in this app about it being bad etiquette. Then I spoke to my mother in law about it(she’s the one that threw the last shower) and she was like, “WHAT?! That’s non-sense! We will be spoiling and celebrating this baby just as much as the first!” 
So as long as she wants to throw one then that’s fine by me 🙂 
I always wait to have the shower after baby is born anyways so it is more of a meeting/celebration anyways!
