Where is your car seat?

We just had our infant seat installed today. We have the Chicco KeyFit30. The firefighter who installed the seat gave us placement options, but he said the middle seat (in back of course) was technically the safest. Once I heard “the safest”, I stopped hearing whatever else he said. So our seat is in the middle of the back. Now that we’re home, I’m just thinking about how I’ve never seen anyone else with their infant seat in the middle. I trust the firefighter, I’m just wondering why people wouldn’t choose the safest placement. Where is your seat and why did you decide to put it there?

When we took our car seat class they said it was literally like 1% safer. Then behind the passenger seat was next, and behind drivers seat after that. They also said a lot of things factor into this. That as long as the car seat is out in correctly, it’s going to do the same amount of work in any seat. Mine will be behind the passengers seat because I have a 4 year old niece that is with me often so I’ll have her behind me. You should take a car seat class! They’re very informative.

Mines on the passenger side. The firefighter was right middle is safest, it’s just my middle seat is insanely small and the car seat wouldn’t be stable and would barely fit there

Middle is safest if your car can accommodate it. Not all cars can because some have a middle seat that is raised or humped slightly. When we took a car seat safety class with our first they told us that middle was safest but they recommended the passenger side for driver’s comfort. My husband and I are both very tall and wouldn’t be able to safely drive our sedan if baby was in middle or driver’s side because we would have to move the driver’s seat too far forward to accommodate a rear facing seat.

I have the same car seat and have it in the middle as well. I've heard it's the safest position in the event of a side impact. I also like it in the middle so that we can have the driver and front passenger seat as far back as we want without running into the car seat. This isn't important for me because I'm short but for my tall husband it matters 😊

Middle seat is where mine is. I didn’t know it was the safest just heard that’s where most people put Baby especially with older kids so that’s what we’ve done

With my first it was in the middle because I had read that’s the safest. This time around the car seat is behind the drivers seat and my oldest is on the passenger side. I tried to fit the car seat in the middle with my oldest’s where it is but my oldest would’ve been able to push the car seat over if he got annoyed or mad. I chose to keep my two year old on the passenger side so that I am able to look back quickly if I need to as I’m worried he’ll be able to start unbuckling himself soon. I have child safety mirrors for both car seats and can see both from my rear view mirror.

Actually, it depends on the seat. Infant seats, when used correctly, are the safest seats regardless of where they are in the car. They have the most protection. 
If you had an older child, you’d put them in the middle if they were in a booster or not in a car seat anymore. 
The main things is that the seat is installed correctly, in a spot where the seat fits. If it is, it’s safe no matter where it’s placed in the backseat. 
Mine is in a captains seat, behind me. 5 year old in a booster is in the opposite captains seat and my 8 and 10 year old are in the back. My car doesn’t have a middle seat (Mazda 5) and most mini vans can’t hold a car seat in the far back middle. The seats are just too narrow.

With my first his carseat was in the middle. But we just drive a small sedan so have no choice to put this one on one of the side seats. If we put it in the middle next to my son's carseat the door won't close properly.
