Is it weird that my mother in law asked for a list of what her people (invites) gave us for our wedding?

She is very materialistic. I would honestly have to write a list of names and try to remember what they gave us because we already did thank you notes. Why would she need it?

I don’t think so. I kept a list of everything from showers and the wedding and my mom will ask what people got us when those peoples kids get married. Just so she can get a gift in the same price range as they got us. It’s been helpful for me too. For the friends that really went over the top with gifts it’s nice to be able to look back to make sure i equally spoil them!

It depends on her intentions really. My mom likes to know who gives us what for wedding, baby showers, etc. because when those people or their kids get married or pregnant she gifts the same or similar in return.

I’m just curious - what ethnic background is she? I’ve heard of this a lot with our Italian friends and my brother-in-law’s family. I guess in some cultures, they want to make sure that whatever they receive from someone, they reciprocate when the time comes.
A few of my husband’s best friends are Italian-American. For his friend’s wedding, we gave them $870. We remembered because it was a weird amount, and we got the EXACT same amount in our envelope from them at our wedding.

I thought it was weird when my mom got nosey about the gifts. She explained that whatever they gave me, she'd give to their children.

It’s weird since you said you’ve already sent out notes. Why would she care? I’m having someone sit down with a notebook and write what we got and who we got it from during the shower so I can do thank you notes the following day but I don’t think anyone else needs to see the list. 🤷🏻‍♀️

No it's so you can send out thank you cards. It's always one of the mothers jobs to help with that
