I made the mistake of telling my mother that I plan to do a natural, non-medicated birth. Unfortunately instead of supporting me she laughed at me and told me I wouldn’t have it in me, that I would be screaming and begging for an epidural the moment things started to move along. My sister basically had the same response. They almost seem entertained by the thought of me in agony!

Now I’m under no illusion that birth is a painful experience, and my birth plan may change. But am I wrong to be so hurt by their comments? Am I being petty for just wanting a little encouragement and support?

Has anyone else had to deal with people berating them for wanting a med free birth?
