Unsure what contraceptive to use for the first time!

I’m 17 and this is my first relationship. My boyfriend is 18 and has had other sexual partners in the past where as I am a virgin. We have talked about having sex, and I am aware that it will probably hurt, but he said he just wants me to be comfortable and at ease. We have both said that are welcoming the prospect. However, I am unsure about what type of birth control to use. I would like to use a condom and another form of contraceptive such as the pill to be extra safe. What would you recommend? Would just a condom/ the pill be sufficient ? X
