Root canal yes or no during pregnancy?!?

I have a root canal that needs to get done but a lot of people are saying it’s not a good idea but the doctor says it’s fine what do you think?!?

Ask your OB, usually you have to avoid a certain type of anesthetic when pregnant.

I’m a dental hygienist, yes root canals are completely safe if needed. If you have an infected tooth it’s better to treat it if left it can lead to an abscess which is some cases can be dangerous. If your not in pain and it’s not urgent  it’s fine to leave it till your out of the first trimester. Otherwise there is no harm to bub whatsoever, the dentist will know what anaesthetic to use that’s best for pregnant ladies and a root canal is pretty much cleaning out the nerve and putting an antibiotic in and then filling the canals with a rubber material none of these are toxic.

I had to get a root canal with my first pregnancy, and I’m so glad I did! I felt better and it’s better for your baby because they are getting rid of any decay and preventing an infection. My dentist had to do an X-ray, but put 2 safety jackets on me :)

No! My dentist won’t do any dental work, other than a regular cleaning during pregnancy. I’d wait until after you have the baby.
