When to move Baby to crib

When should you move your baby to the crib? My daughter just turned 12 weeks and started daycare two days ago. When the babies nap, they nap in a crib. My daughter is used to sleeping in a rock n play and wondered when should I transition?

Now. Your daughters already established a bad sleep habit and it’s going to make it really challenging for her at daycare. We never bought a rock n play at all because we didn’t want to start that habit. Plus it’s not a safe sleep space either. The sooner you transition, the better.

It's entirely up to you. It's recommended by the AAP to reduce the risk of SIDs to have your baby sleep in your room until at least 6 months, preferably a year. If she's in daycare and sleeps in a crib there, perhaps a crib at home would keep consistency up!

As an infant daycare teacher, trying to transition a babe whose used to sleeping in a rock&play;/swing to a crib is pretty hard. We of course let the parents make their own decisions, we totally understand they'll do whatever works best. If you're worried about baby sleeping at daycare, I'd suggest switching to a crib. Or something that lays flat, and doesn't move. In my daycare we're not allowed to use swings, bouncy seats etc. but at the end of the day, the decision is yours. Do whatever works best for your family. 😊

the APA recommends 6 months. I moved my LO at 5 months. I would start letting them get used to sleeping in a non moving flat surface. We used a pack n play until we moved to his crib. did have to teach him to calm himself some with some CIO in small measures then we started a bedtime routine to ease the transition (simple as new diaper, lotion, clothes, soft music, goodnight moon and down for bed) Started this for a few weeks before we moved him then continued in new room.

We also started naps in crib to let him adjust, so you could get whatever you plan on moving them into even if still in your room and let them nap first to get used to it. May need to let them cry for 5 minutes one day, 10 the next 15 the next day after that, as they learn they can calm and fall asleep on thier own with calming measures like sucking on thier hand or binky and such.

We used the rock n play for 2 months then started to put him in the crib at night. He actually transitioned very easily and slept longer!
