Having a hard time reading what my CM is telling me.

I’ve been tracking my O with OPKs and I have just started temping as well. I would like to add in CM checks to my routine, but here is where I have issues. I never have enough in my underwear to really tell the state of it. My underwear is either a little wet or it is dried and crusty by the time I check. I barely ever have any come out! I’m a little uncomfortable with reaching all the way up to my cervix to get a CM sample. Is it normal to have such a small amount come out? Do you think I should woman-up and just check it manually?
