When did you start taking vitamins during pregnancy?

If you ever took any, because I’ve read that not everyone is taking them. I am almost 19 weeks and my doctor hasn’t prescribed any vitamins yet. I just took folic acid for a month and that was it.

I started before I even got pregnant. You can just get them from a pharmacy, you don’t need a prescription.

The most important time for vitamins is the first trimester. The neural tube development needs the extra vitamins that out diets lack. I began taking them while trying to conceive for both of my pregnancies-and continued to take them after I deliver because I also breastfed and want to make sure that I am passing on optimal nutrition. Your dr doesn’t prescribe them-it’s really up to you to begin taking them.

Folic acid is not ideal and is synthetic. Folate is what you may need instead. Be careful which brands you use if you choose to have any vitamins. Do your research.

I started taking prenatals probably as soon as i found out i was pregnant, around 4 weeks. I’m now almost 35 weeks and I’ve taken them everyday since. I have also added, evening primrose oil, iron, and vitamin k drops as advised by my midwife to prepare for labor. If i were you, i’d start taking a just a prenatal now, babies need folic acid to grow properly!
