How old was your baby when he/she could escape the crib?

My son is only 9 mo but when he gets his elbows and arms over the rails of the crib and stands there I start panicking. It almost looks like he could place his feet on the rails and extend his legs and he would be over without a problem. I know it’s probably just my fear, but I’m wondering when others started actually having to worry about this?

Yup.  9 months old and my kid would get out of her crib. Walked in her room one day and she was sitting on the floor smiling. I almost shit my pants.

Have you lowered the mattress to its lowest point in the frame? 
My daughter has only ever climbed out once. Fell and hit the floor and never had done it again. She was about 13/14 months at the time I think. She is 20 months now.

My daughter is 8 months and is already interested in trying to climb it. Once she can do it, I’m converting her to crib to a toddler bed. I see this happening in the next couple months or so. And before i get negative comments on how that’s “too soon”, falling from a bed that’s a foot above the ground is much less dangerous than falling 4 feet from a crib. I’m not giving her the opportunity to fall and hurt herself like that.

I had to take the little metal piece out that holds the mattress up and lay the mattress on the floor still in the crib. Worked for us with the type of crib we had because my son would climb up and just sit on the corner of the crib. I was terrified he would bust his head open

My son was 15 months went he climbed out (multiple times) so we transitioned the crib to the toddler bed
