Beyond Scared Straight

First thing this isn't some type of thing about sexual orientation. Just to get that out of the way. Beyond Scared Straight was a tv show about a police program that parents could use if they had a very disobedient child. These kids ranged from ages I think 12 to 17 perhaps even 18. These kids had histories of Theft, violence, drug abuse, and domestic abuse (child abusing parent/siblings), possession of weapons, and gang affiliation.

These parents would sign there kids up to spend a day, or even over night in a prison. As a prisoner. they would be cuffed, searched, and given a jumpsuit. Cops would treat them as prisoners, yelling at them, keeping them in order. Even to the point of the child in tears

A good amount of these kids were even violent at the cops while in the prison some even being ballsy enough to swing

They were detained and cuffed if such a thing happened. On the stay they tried the food made in the prison, and had some chosen prisoners to come and also try to get the kids in line, for the ones that were to dangerous were only spoken to through a door.

These prisoners were of course being watched closely by the guards in the event that a kid tried to start a fight, which some did.

At the end of the day the kids would talk to their parents through the phone and only be able to see them through a window. to get the chance to apologize, and had learned their lesson and would do better. From there the parent would decide if they felt their kid was being genuine, if so they could take their kid home, if not the child would have to stay over night in a personal cell.

A month or so later after the jail stay they would show the more memorable kids from the show and give us an update.

I'd the jail stay make them do better, or did it do nothing. over all most kids got better, but some didn't even to the point of getting arrested and going to jail anyway.

I wanna know if as a parent if your child was being this bad would you put them through a program like this?

I personally would, fear is a very powerful thing, and if they had the fear of going to prison in their hearts them it would give me more hope that they would attempt to do better to stay out.
