How to deal with homophobia?

My family doesn’t know I’m gay, (16 btw), and sexuality became a discussion at dinner tonight and they just completely bashed gays.. I had to just sit there and act like it didn’t bother me. I just feel so bothered right now and tired of having to put up with this..

I understand. It’s very hard to deal with homophobic stuff, especially from your family. You might tell your self it that it doesn’t matter, but it still hurts. 
Honestly I wouldn’t bother telling them unless they ask. If you are sure your safe if you come out to them then you should do so, but people who hate people based on there sexual, romantic and gender identity don’t deserve your time and effort. Don’t waste your time on them. I know it’s hard to imagine not telling your family, but you have to do certain things in order to be safe. Never feel pressured to come out. Only do so if you want to and you feel safe doing so. 
Just ignore them for now and try to live your life. Stay away from that topic at home and enjoy yourself. If you do eventually come out then hope that this will change their minds, if not though, don’t bother with them. Find yourself friends, family and community who will except you for loving who ever you want to love.

My thing is this, my 11 year old said it best, homophobia is the the dumbest thing to be. Phobia is the fear of something, the worst is gays are gonna do is redecorate your house and flip your outfit! Be scared of spiders, clowns, be scared of something that is scary. Gay people are not scary.

I hear yah. Just be you honestly, no one said you had to “come out” you don’t need to tell anyone but if someone asks, just be proud of it!! Like I don’t see straight people coming out as straight. But I can relate, I want to say I’m bisexual but feel like I’m not supposed to be

Don’t come out unless it’s safe! And if you decide it’s time even though it’s not safe or you decide to come out but have doubts, make sure you have a place to stay for the next few days as your parents comprehend the new fact they’ve learned! Stay strong!

that really sucks. all you can do it just ignore it and don’t add onto the conversation to seem like you agree. (duh, why would you) 
but also don’t come out unless you have a back up living situation because this situation seems way too potentially dangerous.
