Did you eat during labor?

I’m stressed about getting hungry I don’t do well hungry I get crabby and frustrated until I eat 😣

I ate after but trust me you wouldn't even think about food at that time.

I ate right before I went to the hospital. There’s studies that say eating during labor isn’t dangerous like previously thought.

If you snuck for during labor though ... there’s no way a hospital could kick you out for that is there?

I didn’t eat for 36 hours :( but when I did omg the food tasted better than it ever had before. Maybe it was just my senses after labor haha. But, I was more upset about not having water. I snuck some behind my nurses backs.

I stuffed my face before and then my nurse let me eat half way through 😏

It depends on the hospital and at what point you are in during the labor. My nurses encouraged me to eat at the beginning-middle to keep up strength—I also wasn’t dialating

It depends on were you give birth. If you give birth in a freestanding birth center or have a home birth you will be allowed to eat and drink as the midwives encourage eating to keep your strength up. There have been studies that show that eating and drinking during labor is safe. If you are hungry or thirsty during labor it will cause unnecessary stress. Many hospitals don't allow eating or drinking because they do c sections and consider not eating to be safer. I don't know of any hospitals in the region I'm in that allows eating or drinking as all they let you have is ice but isn't a good thirst quincher. I think not allowing a woman to eat and drink during labor is a  bit cruel. Giving birth is like a marathon and you wouldnt starve or thirst yourself during one so why should labor be any different. Have a discussion with your doctor or midwive to see how they feel about eating in labor. Also consider touring werever you will be giving birth to see if it suits you and you feel comfortable there as its important to bring your baby into the world in a place you feel comfortable in. If you find they don't allow food or water perhaps you could find another place to give birth that does if that is something you feel strongly about.

On our tour they showed us the snack cupboard and fridge. They said we’re welcome to it anytime including during labor. It’s not large or heavy food. There were granola bars, honey sticks, bread for toast, etc.
