How much of your annual income goes into savings?

Question

It’s been said at least 20% of your annual income should go to savings. More if you can afford it. How much of your annual income goes into savings and how old are you? 
(I ask age because I want to see if age affects it) as part of a study I’m doing in school.

We put away $18,000 in hubby's tsp, $18,000 in my Roth 401k, plus I get 16% into a b fund about $32,000 and I do the IRA to Roth conversion of $11,000 a year. Not sure what percent that is of our income. We live far below our means. Plan on retiring at 50ish.

We’re taking money out of our savings to pay these medical bills. I’m 29 and husband is 30. I put $2,500 in my retirement account but that’s it. My husband is about to get promotion though (almost triple his current income). THEN we’ll be putting a good chunk into savings monthly!

I didn't save so much in the past, but starting this year I'm putting £800 out of my £1200 salary into savings so I can afford to move out. That wouldn't be reflective of what I'd put into savings once I move since it'll be going on bills, so I'm not sure which answer to give. I'm 23
